FRequently Asked Questions

How Can Dr. Lisa Help me and my family?

  • Positive Discipline can help with any parenting issue from ‘not listening’, to routines for bedtime, meals, after-school, homework, and the morning! Parents have come for help with all sorts of conflict - between siblings, power struggles, screen time limit setting. It helps with developing self-regulation, self-esteem, executive functions and even toileting.

  • Positive Discipline is trying to help parents move away from punishment and yelling. Punishment is NOT an effective strategy in the long-term. Positive Discipline uses the idea of a ‘Positive Time-Out’ which is described in the blog on this site.

  • All of the Positive Discipline approaches were developed by Jane Nelsen, I often recommend her books. Sometimes Dr. Lisa has put her own spin on the approaches.

Dr. Lisa’s other favourite parenting book of all time is Adele Faber’s book How to Listen So Kids will Talk, and Talk so Kids Will Listen.

For teenagers it is great to check out Anthony Wolf’s book - Get Out of My Life, But First Can You Drive Me and Cheryl to the Mall.

This is a blog with a list of books, and other resources, that Dr Lisa has compiled over the years.
