EFFECTIVE FOLLOW THROUGH
1) Keep comments simple and concise: “I notice you haven’t set the table. Please do that now.”
2) In response to objections - “What was our agreement?”
3) If there is further push back - don’t say anything, use non-verbal communication - eg. point to your watch, or a single word post-it note you have on the wall referring to the agreement
4) If the child concedes - say ‘thank you for keeping our agreement’, if not follow through with agreed upon consequence, with no additional emotion, and remind the child that tomorrow is another day to get back on agreed upon track.
