WHAT KIND OF PARENT USES POSITIVE DISCIPLINE?

Authoritative Parenting is different from authoritarian parenting, permissive parenting, or uninvolved parenting. Authoritarian parenting is parenting with order, but no freedom. Permissive parenting is parenting with freedom, but no order, and uninvolved parenting is parenting with no freedom and no order.

Authoritative parenting has been shown to lead to children/young adults who are more likely to become independent, self-reliant, socially accepted, academically successful, and well-behaved. These children/young adults are also less likely to report depression, anxiety or to engage in anti-social behaviours or abuse substances.

Positive Discipline, developed and written about by Jane Nelsen, helps parents be kind and firm, and to deploy parenting tools that are empowering and encouraging.
